Alex’s Journey to the Grave (or AJG for short) is a visual novel about a boy trapped by fate and a girl in dire need of a friend. The player will guide them through some of the hardest decisions of their lives as they experience warmth, connection, tragedy, the inevitability of death… and the antics of a mysterious black cat.

Development is still ongoing, with release planned for 2026, and a 15,000 word or about 1.5 hour long demo containing the first of six acts is available now on both Steam and itch.io.

AJG is inspired by other games with similar dark themes such as OMORI or the Milk series by Nikita Kryukov, and its more uplifting, cute, and romantic themes come with inspiration from the likes of Katawa Shoujo.

Like many of its inspirations, AJG includes themes and depictions that may be distressing to many individuals. These include depression, anxiety, self harm, suicide, and loss/grieving.

A boy escaped his fate, only to be trapped by another. A girl found her conviction, but never the chance to act on it.

Alex and Alex meet at a low point in both their lives, in a random online encounter that neither could have ever seen coming. An in-person meeting is inevitable as their connection swiftly grows, but the girl’s smiling face only intensifies the dark cloud of guilt in the trapped boy’s mind.

One keeps a dark, pressing secret, and the other is struck by tragedy. Their connection is forged stronger than steel by hardship, and they continue to grow closer with each and every day they share.

The boy’s fate now pursues the both of them, but as a familiar black cat joins them in their new life together… a spark of hope remains.
